Casio Releases Two Concept Watches and Seven New Models at BASELWORLD 2014

  • March 26, 2014
Casio Computer Co., Ltd., is proud to exhibit at Baselworld. Once again this year, we present to the world the groundbreaking ideas of the brightest minds in our timepiece business and the great products that these ideas bring to the global market.

It has been 40 years since Casio first entered the watch market in 1974. Making the most of our original electronics technology, we have been able to dominate our market with a steady stream of successful digital watches. When it comes to digital watches, Casio is a household name.

However, over 80% of the global watch market belongs to analog watches. Our challenge now is to improve our position in this field, which means we need to create unique analog watches. Our approach for achieving this is clear: leveraging our innovative digital technologies to develop analog watches with highly advanced functionality.

Compared to a digital watch with an LCD, the information from an analog watch is ordinarily limited by its hands. Furthermore, attempts to add functions usually make watches more complicated to operate.

Casio has developed two key technologies that solve these problems. One is Multi Mission Drive, which enables a single watch hand to perform multiple functions. The other is Smart Access, which allows the wearer to operate the many functions of the watch in an intuitive, familiar fashion by pulling, turning and pressing an electronic crown switch. These technologies have made it possible for Casio to create analog watches that deliver rich, highly advanced functionality without sacrificing readability or ease of use. Just have a look at our latest high-performance analog G-SHOCK and PRO TREK watches.

At Baselworld 2014, you will witness the next step in the evolution of Casio’s richly functional watches. By making the motors for the Multi Mission Drive even smaller, we have produced a space-saving movement. Also, the new shape of the solar cell provides more efficient power supply, enabling even greater functionality. The key to increasing performance is the creation of a “synchronized timepiece.” By using our unique digital technologies to stay in step with the era of GPS and smartphone devices, we are pioneering new frontiers in analog watches.

To provide a hint about the future, Casio will also be exhibiting concept models such as the world’s first solar-powered watch with a hybrid system for receiving GPS and time-calibration signals and an analog watch that links with a smartphone using Bluetooth technology. We will also be showcasing analog+digital outdoor watches that provide vital information on the surrounding environment using three different sensors.
