Tough Solar System
Solar watches are powered by light energy. The solar fields "catch" the light and transform it into energy. The CASIO Tough Solar System is now so advanced that even the weakest light sources are sufficient to operate the watches.
The solar cells are so small and inconspicuous that they can be integrated easily into every watch face design. CASIO's solar field can also be manufactured in any colour and design.
An accumulator in solar watches saves "superfluous" energy and releases it when the watch is in darkness. Solar watches are always equipped with an accumulator. The accumulator is charged automatically and does not require manual activation.
Q3 Though there is no need for battery replacement, is there any other periodic maintenance required?
A3 Water-resistant models need to have their rubber seals replaced every two or three years in order to ensure proper water resistance.
Q4 Can I charge the watch under fluorescent light?
A4 Yes. The watch should be able to keep on running as long as you keep it exposed to indoor and outdoor light as much as possible throughout the day.
Q5 What does the Full Auto Light feature do?
A5 The Full Auto Light feature automatically illuminates the face of the watch whenever it is angled towards your face, but only in the dark or when surrounding light is dim. The face is not illuminated automatically while the Full Auto Light feature is turned off, or if your watch is not equipped with the Full Auto Light feature.
Q6 I would like to know more about how the solar power system works.
A6 Click here for a detailed explanation.

Q7 The display of my watch is blank. What should I do?
A7 Place the watch in a location where it is exposed to light. If display characters do not reappear or the CHARGE indicator starts flashing on the display after about five seconds, it means that battery power has gone low. If this happens, leave the watch exposed to light until the CHARGE indicator disappears from the display. Note that all of the watch's buttons are disabled while the CHARGE indicator is flashing on the display.
Q8 What should I do when I do not plan to use the watch for a long time?
A8 If you are going to leave the watch in a drawer or somewhere else where it will not be exposed to light, first charge it completely and turn on its power saving feature to ensure that battery power is conserved.
Q9 Is there anything I need to keep in mind during charging?
A9 You should be able to achieve sufficient charging by ensuring that it is exposed to indoor and outdoor lighting as much as possible throughout the day. Note, however, that charging under very hot conditions, like the ones described below, can lead to malfunction or burn injury.
o On the dash board of a car parked in the sun
o Close to an incandescent light or some other source of intense heat
o Any area exposed for long periods to direct sunlight
Also note that charging efficiency is degraded if any part of the solar cell is blocked.
Q10 Why is there an indicator like RECOVER or RECOV (either flashing or steady) on the display of my watch?
A10 This indicator appears to let you know that the battery is recovering after a large load is placed on it over a short period. All tones and the light are disabled during recovery. The indicator should disappear and normal operation should resume after battery voltage recovers.
If the RECOVER/RECOV indicator appears frequently, it means that remaining battery power is low. Leave the watch in bright light so it can charge.
Q11 What can I do to conserve battery power?
A11 Use the light, alarm, and other power-hungry features, only when you really need them. If your watch has a Full Auto Light feature, turn the feature off when you do not need to illuminate the face of the watch.
Q12 How can I restore normal watch operation from the sleep state?
A12 Place the watch in a location where it is exposed to light, or press any button. If your watch is equipped with an Auto Light feature, normal operation is restored by tilting the watch towards your face for reading.
Q13 Do alarms and the Hourly Time Signal sound while the watch is in the sleep state?
A13 If your watch has a one-step sleep state (see Question 3, above), alarms and the Hourly Time signal sound while the watch is in the sleep state. If your watch has a two-step sleep state, alarms and the Hourly Time signal sound while the watch is in step 1 of the sleep state, but not in step 2 of the sleep state.
Q14 Why is the display of my watch blank, except for a SLEEP or S indicator (either flashing or steady).
A14 The watch is designed to automatically enter a sleep state and shut down the display to conserve power whenever the watch is not exposed to light for a specific amount of time. The sleep state is indicated when either "SLEEP" or "S" is on the display (either flashing or steady). Click here for information about how to exit the sleep state.
Some watch models have a two-step sleep state. In step 1, just the display is turned off, as described above. If the watch remains without light for a number of days, step 2 is triggered, which shuts down all watch operation, except for timekeeping. See the User's Guide that comes with you watch for information about its sleep state.
Important!
The watch will enter the sleep state only if its power saving feature is turned on.
